Let me preface this entry by saying that I am not OCD (as evidenced by the dust bunnies on my floor). But I am in the hell of disorganization...
Some would say that is par for the course of a startup, but having worked in startups for 20 years, I know the difference between disorganization and chaos.
Chaos is creative expansion and reflective contraction that occurs at an exponential rate and can feel overwhelming - but the purpose and direction of change is understood. Contrast that with disorganization.
Disorganization is characterized by thrashing about from one thing to another. Rudderless change impedes progress in moving forward, because there appears to be no discernible purpose to the changes.
That’s where leadership steps in – guiding your team through the throes of chaos without drowning by staying true to your purpose, your journey.
